A moka pot uses steam pressure to push water through the coffee, while an espresso machine uses much higher pressure. Moka pots are simpler, cheaper and produce a milder coffee. Espresso machines make a more intense coffee and can make milk-based drinks, but are more complex and expensive.
Both have advantages. Aluminium is lighter, cheaper and heats faster, but doesn't work on induction. Stainless steel is more durable, induction-compatible and easier to clean, but more expensive and heavier. For taste, the difference is minimal.
Rinse with hot water after every use. Full clean with disassembly weekly. Monthly descaling with vinegar. Never use soap or washing-up liquid.
Choose based on your daily consumption: 3-cup for 1–2 people, 6-cup for families. Moka pots work best when filled to the brim, so don't go too large.
